Internet Crimes Against Children

Advancements in technology and the growing number of children with access to online platforms have made our children more vulnerable than ever to being victimized by predators.

Since 2016, Minnesota has seen a more than 700-percent increase in the number of tips about criminals victimizing children online.

In addition, more and more criminals are using these interactions to blackmail children into providing explicit content – a crime known as sextortion.

Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) leads a task force focused on stopping these crimes.

The Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force works with law enforcement agencies throughout Minnesota to investigate and prosecute those who exploit children online. The ICAC Task Force also works to educate parents and children about potential online risks.

How to Report Suspected Criminal Activity

Report suspicious online conduct involving children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline or call 1-800-THE-LOST, (800) 843-5678. You can also contact your local law enforcement agency or contact the BCA at 651-793-7000.
