Criminal justice information services
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) holds information and helps connect information from different sources in the criminal justice system. The agency’s technology section, called Minnesota Justice Information Services (MNJIS), manages and often develops those data systems, and ensures that information is kept secure and that only those with legal access to information can get it.
Public services
MNJIS provides many public services, including the following:
- Background checks
- Fingerprinting services
- Questioned identity assistance
- Identity theft information
- Criminal history information

Criminal justice agency services
MNJIS also facilitates the access to and exchange of information between sources of criminal justice data, providing technology and services to help agencies solve crimes, prosecute offenders and protect Minnesotans and all who visit our state.
MNJIS works under the direction of the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information and BCA Advisory Group.
