BCA Divisions

Professional Services

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Professional Services division provides many services for Minnesota criminal justice agencies and the public.

BCA Training

BCA Training provides training for law enforcement officers and other criminal justice practitioners on management and leadership, information security and criminal justice information systems, and a variety of tactical training related to criminal investigations and forensic science testing. 

BCA legal and data practices

The BCA legal team reviews materials held by the BCA to determine what can be released and what needs to be protected under Minnesota law for investigative cases, including cases that involve use of force by a police officer, as well as data requests received from people or public or private entities. 

Business shared services

The BCA has a centralized team that manages all of the BCA’s fiscal responsibilities including budgeting, procurement, asset management, and grants and contracts management.

Law enforcement accreditation

The BCA is pursuing national law enforcement accreditation through the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies. The BCA is committed to the highest standards of professionalism and quality in law enforcement services and to promoting consistency, transparency and accountability.

Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information and BCA Advisory Group

This external Advisory Group representing all disciplines in the criminal justice system as well as legislators, local government, and members of the public, advises the legislature on criminal justice information policy and funding issues. It also advises the Superintendent of the BCA on topics such as audits, policies, reports, emerging technologies and other operational activities.
