Minnesota Crime Data Explorer

Use the Minnesota Crime Data Explorer to get information about criminal activity and other information reported by local law enforcement agencies to meet Minnesota and federal reporting requirements.

The information you’ll see may look different from what appears in federal or local crime data reports. This is because different agencies may publish data at different times, the data may be updated at different times, or the methodology used to pull data from other systems may differ slightly.

Information in the Minnesota Crime Data Explorer includes but is not limited to:

  • Arrest information
  • Bias motivated crimes
  • Firearms discharge
  • Law enforcement employee information
  • Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted
  • Missing persons
  • Crimes against persons, property and society (including information on victims and offenders)
  • Pursuits
  • Use-of-force
  • 5-Year Index Crime Trend (combined property and violent crime trends)
  • Historical Index (crime data dating back to 1936)

Uniform Crime Reports

These reports summarize some of the information you’ll see in the Minnesota Crime Data Explorer. For years prior to 2021, the Uniform Crime Reports are the full compilation of data for that year.

Because these are static reports, the data contained within the reports are current as of the date of publication and do not contain all information about crime activity in a given year.

Earlier publications

Uniform Crime Reports prior to 2017 may be available at the Minnesota Historical Society via the Gale Family Library or the Legislative Reference Library. Contact these organizations for more information on what is in each collection.
