Minnesota State Patrol 911 dispatchers are often the first voice heard in a person's moment of crisis. Dispatchers answer calls and get important information so troopers can respond to the scene quickly and safely. Dispatchers are an important link between someone needing help and members of the State Patrol, who are here to serve.
Our dispatch centers and dispatchers
The State Patrol has two main dispatch centers, called Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). One is in Roseville and one is in Rochester. Both centers handle both emergency (911) and non-emergency calls. They also dispatch for various state and federal agencies. If a catastrophic event happens at either center, the other center can still support the entire state.
There are more than 50 dispatchers who work at the PSAPs. They answer approximately 500,000 total calls and dispatch troopers across the state each year.
Emergency calls and answer times
Minnesota State Patrol dispatchers answer 911 calls related to freeway or highway incidents statewide. Dispatchers answer approximately 200,000 911 calls each year. The dispatchers are a vital link between the caller and first responders. Seconds matter when someone’s life is on the line. More than 96 percent of 911 calls are answered by our dispatchers in under 10 seconds.
Administrative incoming and outgoing calls
Minnesota State Patrol dispatchers also answer non-emergency calls. These calls come from troopers and other dispatchers. Our dispatchers can answer questions and route calls to where they’re supposed to go.
