Minnesota State Patrol troopers work to keep Minnesota’s roads safe. They do this by enforcing traffic laws. They focus on speed limits, seat belt use, preventing distracted driving, and arresting impaired drivers. These efforts help prevent crashes, injuries and property damage.

Learn more about our ongoing traffic enforcement efforts to make Minnesota's roads safer below.

Traffic stop citations and warnings

Traffic citations and warnings are ways law enforcement address violations in traffic laws. Traffic citations are formal notices given to drivers who break a traffic law. A citation usually includes a fine and may require a court appearance. A warning is less formal and typically given for minor violations. Warnings aim to correct behavior without legal consequences.
