Crime Victim Services Grants
The Office of Justice Programs, Crime Victim Grants Unit (CVGU), distributes approximately $62 million annually in state and federal funds to 178 agencies throughout Minnesota to provide direct advocacy services to victims of crime. Depending on the type of program services an agency is funded to provide, services may include crisis intervention, advocacy, group support, legal advocacy, transportation, shelter, accompaniment to appointments or court, assistance in seeking financial assistance or civil protection orders, and information and referral to other resources. Funded agencies also commit to ongoing staff development, providing community education and outreach, working with other criminal justice partners to improve the system and partnering with other professionals to promote cooperative services for victims.

VAWA S.T.O.P.
The Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) is a component of the U.S. Dept. of Justice (DOJ). Created in 1995, OVW implements the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and subsequent legislation and provides national leadership on issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. By forging State, local and Tribal partnerships among police, prosecutors, judges, victim advocates, health care providers, faith leaders, and others, OVW grants help provide victims with the protection and services they need to pursue safe and healthy lives, while improving communities’ capacity to hold offenders accountable for their crimes.
VAWA funding is allocated to each state and territory to address violence against women through its Services Training Officers Prosecutors (STOP) Formula Grant Program. In Minnesota, half of the VAWA funds are dedicated to developing and strengthening effective law enforcement and prosecution responses and strategies to combat violent crimes against women.
